  • What happens to your policy if not renewed even during the grace period?

  1. Your policy lapses i.e. it no more exists. It’s no more valid and applicable.

  2. It cannot be renewed at all.

  3. You lose all the benefits of this lapsed policy – no claim bonus, etc.

  4. You will have no other choice but to buy a new health insurance policy and have to go through all the formalities like a first timer – 3 months waiting period for the policy for activation; 2 to 5 years of waiting period to avail certain benefits specified under the policy; etc.

  • How to renew health insurance?

  1. You can renew your health insurance online from the comfort of your home or convenience of your office. It’s the simplest and fastest way.

  2. On the online renewal form of the insurer’s website, you just have to fill in some quick details – current policy number, date of expiry, etc.

  3. After this you have to pay the first premium of the renewed policy through net banking/ credit card/ debit card.

  4. Upon the payment being received, your insurer will a send signed copy of the renewed policy via e-mail, along with the new set of username and password that will be applicable for the renewed policy, henceforth.

  • Things to keep in mind during health insurance renewal:

  1. It is not necessary or compulsory to continue with the same insurance company. If you find a better service or plan elsewhere you can shift your policy to your desired company, using the portability option at the time of renewal, without losing on any benefits or extra charges or waiting period clauses.

  2. To avoid any future complications, inform your insurer about any new illnesses that you may have acquired by the date of the renewal.

  3. You can increase the sum assured amount if need be.
